Rhode Island has enacted legislation requiring employers to provide reasonable on the job accommodations for expectant mothers and new moms.

Expanding on Fair Employment Practices Act, the law makes it illegal not to offer reasonable accommodation for employees pertaining to pregnancy, childbirth or other related medical conditions.
However, if an employer can show that providing such accommodation to a pregnant woman or nursing mother would cause undue hardship to the employer, including significant financial harm, the employer need not provide that accommodation.
This exception is similar in scope to other current state and federal disability discrimination law,
