Amendments to the “South Carolina Illegal Immigration and Reform Act” require employers in the state to verify the legal status of all new employees through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s E-Verify system within three business days of employment. The amendments were signed into law by Governor Nikki Haley on June 27, 2011, effective January 1, 2012.
