About Using Material Safety Data Sheets in the Laboratory

Working with hazardous materials in the laboratory requires a great deal of caution.

An accident or miscalculation can have serious consequences.

Fortunately, there a number of "indicators" that warn employees when they may be about to encounter danger.

These include labels, storage area signs, and the like.

But to work safely laboratory employees need to know as much as possible about the hazardous materials they may encounter.

To get this "full picture" they need to be able to read and understand Material Safety Data Sheets. MSDS's will provide information on everything from hazardous ingredients to what personal protective equipment should be used when handling that particular material.
