About Lock-Out/Tag-OutOSHA estimates that over 100 lives are lost and 60,000 injuries occur each year due to employees working with equipment and machinery that has not been properly locked out. As a result, in the fall of 1989, OSHA passed new Lock-Out/Tag-Out regulations addressing this serious problem. The key to the process of Lock-Out/Tag-Out is the isolation of a machines "energy source" so that the machine can not be inadvertently turned on. While the concept of Lock-Out/Tag-Out is based on a common sense approach to dealing with powered machinery, many employees have had little or no training in this area. Additionally, most employees do not realize how frequently they encounter situations where Lock-Out/Tag-Out procedures should be applied. Lock Out Tag Out |
