The following is a summary of the top 10 safety problems reported by U.S. Manufacturers in a survey released May 24 by The Marlin Company and Occupational Health & Safety magazine.

Ranking of safety problems reported by US manufacturers:

  1. Failure to wear PPE - 61%
  2. slips, trips and falls - 56%
  3. back injuries from lifting - 47%
  4. failure to follow housekeeping procedures - 43%
  5. improper machine guarding - 35%
  6. eye injuries - 22%
  7. lockout/tagout - 17%
  8. other - 11%
  9. injuries related to hazardous materials, 8%
